China’s Wei Pang took gold with 688.2 points, followed by South Korea’s Jong Oh Jin (684.5) and Jong Su Kim of North Korea (683). According to Brian Lewis, the Trinidad and Tobago Olympic Committee (TTOC) Secretary General, “from a TTOC perspective, it was disappointing since he finished lower than he did at Athens (the 2004 Olympics).” At Athens, Daniel tallied 574 points and placed 27th overall.
The TTOC Official admitted that the 38-year old soldier struggled with his form and performances last year, which put his chances for Beijing in jeopardy.
“During the last four months, he got help from the TTOC and the Government to shift his base to Mongolia where he resuscitated his Olympic plans,” Lewis noted. “His performances lately saw him get a wildcard for Beijing by the International Sport Shooting Federation.”
Daniel ends up 37th in Beijing shoot
Roger Daniel shot a total of 571 points to finish 37th of 48 competitors in the men's 10 m air pistol competition at the Beijing Summer Olympics.
Speaking after his second Olympic outing Daniel said that while he was disappointed to finish lower than his Athens 2004 ranking he is encouraged by the fact that he is adapting to a new technique and in that context the is optmistic about his future.
He was the first T&T athlete to go into competitve action following Friday night's spectacular opening ceremony.
